A Week Long Residential Training

I always try to be the part of opportunities where I can meet more and more people related to my field. Off course, the cause remains to learn and get connected for better career opportunities. While packing for a week long residential training in Islamabad, I knew something wonderful will happen. I learnt different creative methods to teach English for employ-ability skills, met with amazing people from eleven different stations of Pakistan and enjoyed luxuries of the hotel.

My blogging Buddies & Crystal
Our sessions were conducted by national and international facilitators; Crystal (USA) and Umar (Pakistan). In crystal’s session I learnt about blogging, infomercials, gamification, info graphics, persuasive speech and many other effective methods to teach language. In the other session, I developed multiple lesson plans and worksheets in a group work. Many things were new for me which I am looking forward to integrating into my teaching.

Apart from building capacity, I observed change in my behavior too. Though, I always try not to be racist (consciously) but, you never know how deep its rooted. During the session, I met with Dr. Iftikhar from Peshawar. He was the most senior and experienced person in our group. However, he was humble, down to earth, proactive, responsible, cooperative and very professional. I myself have worked with many males who were from KPK. I often had this prejudiced perception that they don’t appreciate working women. But, Dr. Iftikhar changed my perception. His treatment and appreciation towards other women made me to update my old version of software which was containing biased thoughts.

Other than networking and learning, I also enjoyed pool, Jacuzzi, Sauna and Steam bath. I think, that was treat for myself after a long day work. I made sure to have balance time. As I believe, spending time with oneself is as essential as meeting others. For that hour, I use to play, enjoy and get relaxed. It was a child like feeling. Additionally, my wish came true. I always wanted to write blogs. But, out of fear that I might make some mistakes, I never dared to do so. Thanks to crystal who made me to write for the sake of expressing our own self rather than to be perfectionist (perhaps, this is what we teach to our students but don't apply on our own self.
